We all need a basic skincare routine no matter what our skin type is. But finding that perfect routine which you can stick to can be quite exhausting with hundreds and thousands of products being available in the market.

So here is the 5 steps basic skincare routine that all of us should incorporate in our daily skincare for healthy and beautiful skin.

But remember!! Results are only seen through consistency so give your skin the time it requires.

Step 1:Cleansing
Step 2:Exfoliating
Step 3:Toning
Step 4:Moisturizing
Step 5:Protection

1 Step 1: Cleansing

Washing your face is the first step in your skincare ritual. It helps to remove all the dirt, sweat, excess oil, makeup, and other types of pollutants and allows the skin to breathe, repair, and renew itself.

How to choose a cleanser?

You can choose a cleanser based on your skin type. Choose the one that does not leave your skin feeling tight after washing.

For dry skin:

  • Cleansing milk, oil cleansers, and micellar cleansers are good for people with dry skin. These cleansers clean your skin without stripping it of its natural oils.
  • Avoid foam cleansers as these can dry out your skin even more
  • Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser, Liquid Neutrogena pure, mild facial cleanser, Himalaya moisturizing aloe vera face wash are some of the cleansers good for dry skin and sensitive skin.

For oily and combination skin:

  • Gel cleansers, clay cleansers, and foam cleansers are known to be best for oily and combination skin types. These cleansers purify your skin by drawing out the excess oil and toxins from your pores.
  • Avoid milk cleansers.
  • Clean and clear foaming face wash, Neutrogena oil-free acne face wash, Himalaya purifying neem face wash, Cetaphil oily skin cleanser are some of the cleansers worth trying.

2 Step 2: Exfoliating

Exfoliation removes the dead skin cells from the outer layers of the skin, improves circulation, and allows better absorption of serum and moisturizers.

You can exfoliate your skin once or twice a week (No more than three times a week!!). Be careful not to over-exfoliate as it can cause irritation and breakouts.

Here are some products you can try.

For dry skin:

  • Biotique bio walnut purifying and polishing scrub
  • Himalaya herbals gentle exfoliating apricot scrub
  • VLCC papaya and apricot face scrub

For oily skin and combination skin:

  • Neutrogena Deep Clean Blackhead Eliminating Daily Scrub
  • Everyuth Naturals Exfoliating Walnut Scrub
  • Lakme Blush & Glow Strawberry Face Scrub
  • Himalaya Herbals Purifying Neem Scrub

3 Step 3: Toning

Although it may seem like an unnecessary step in your skincare, toners actually do help your skin feel refreshed.

They help to remove excess dirt, traces of oil and makeup, correct and balance the pH of your skin and help control acne.

Here are some of the products you can try. (www.dermcollective.com)

4 Step 4: Moisturizing

Not only dry skin, but even oily skin needs moisturization. You just have to choose the one that fits your skin type.

For dry skin:

  • For dry skin, choose oil-based creams or lotions
  • Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream, Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Deep Moisture Balm, Nivea Soft Moisturizing Creme are some products good for dry skin.

For oily and combination skin:

  • Go for the ones that are lightweight,gel-based moisturizer or lotion which don’t block the pores.
  • CeraVe AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion, Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel, Pond’s Light Moisturizer are some products you can try.

5 Step 5: Protection

Sunscreen is the most crucial step without which skincare is incomplete. It protects your skin from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays which are commonly associated with skin aging that can cause fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots.

Apply sunscreen with at least 30 SPF, 15 minutes before heading outdoors, as it takes a while for sunscreen to activate.

For dry skin:

  • Choose the sunscreen enriched with moisturizing ingredients such as glycerin, hyaluronic acid, and honey.
  • You can try: VLCC Moisturizing Sun Block Cream, Lacto Calamine Sun Shield with Spf 30, Lakme Sun Expert with Spf 30

For oily skin:

  • Water-based or gel formulas with matte finish with ingredients like green tea, tree tea oil, or niacinamide are ideal.
  • You can try: Clinique Super City Block Oil-Free Daily Face Protector 40 SPF, Cetaphil PRO Oil Absorbing Moisturizer SPF 30, Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Lotion Sunscreen SPF 30

  1. I love how simple you made skin care. Most people over complicate it and I get lost. This is a great simplified routine that anyone can follow 😉
