Shareholding and Float
Who owns the company, and how much trades.
A company's shares are split between different owner groups. In Nepal, shares are commonly divided into promoter shares (held by founders/insiders) and public shares (held by ordinary investors). The public portion is what freely trades. Promoter holding Founders and insiders. High promoter stake can mean aligned interests. Public / float Freely traded shares. More float usually means easier buying and selling. Free float The portion actually available to trade, used in some index calculations. NEPSE reports several indices. Some weight the whole market, others only the freely-floating shares. That's why you'll see a 'Float' index alongside the main one.
